DHARAMSHALA, Jan. 7: A powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Dingri County in Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet, on Tuesday morning, leaving at least 95 people dead and 130 others injured as of 3 pm Tuesday, according to Chinese state media, Xinhua.
The quake, which hit at 9:05 a.m., caused widespread destruction in the region, with villages in Dingri reporting intense tremors. The epicentre was located in Dingri, near Mount Everest, but its impact was felt across neighbouring areas, including Ngamring, Lhatse, Dingkye, and Shigatse. Aftershocks as strong as 4.4 magnitudes continued to rattle the region, further complicating rescue and relief efforts.
