Aukatsang held a press conference at Lhagyal Ri on Friday, 21 November 2025, at 10:30 a.m., formally announcing his candidacy for the 2026 Sikyong election. This follows his YouTube video released on 19 November, in which he confirmed his intention to seek a second term as the political leader of the Central Tibetan Administration. Aukatsang becomes the second candidate to officially enter the race since the Tibetan Election Commission announced the schedule for the upcoming polls.
