Philippine MP Rufus Rodriguez says Ramon Magsaysay Award awarded to the Dalai Lama still remembered in the Philippines During the 86th enthronement anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, organised by the Central Tibetan Administration at the Main Temple Tsuklakhang on 22 February, Guest of Honour Rufus Rodriguez, Member of the House of Representatives of the Philippines, recalled with pride that his nation conferred the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award on His Holiness in 1959. In his address, Rodriguez expressed honour that the Philippines had recognised the Dalai Lama’s leadership and commitment to peace and compassion through the award, which is widely regarded as Asia’s equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize. He reaffirmed his country’s respect and admiration for His Holiness’ enduring contributions to global peace and human values.
