Major cities across the world saw Tibetans hold peaceful demonstrations on Tuesday, March 10, urging the international community to push for accountability from China, whose alleged human rights violations inside Tibet are often overshadowed by its growing economic and diplomatic clout.
That has not discouraged thousands from showing up to mark the Tibetan National Uprising — from Taipei, Tokyo and Canberra to London, Paris, Brussels, Oslo, and cities across the United States including New York, Washington and Boston. The day has been commemorated every year since March 10, 1959, when Chinese forces killed more than 86,000 Tibetans in the aftermath of a people-led revolt.
